First of all, thank you very much for such a nice surprise present for us from all of you – it was really unexpected, and was so sweet of you. It will be a nice token that would let us remember all of you whenever we use it.

I hope you enjoyed the year with a sense of achievement. Well done for everyone who passed, also just another final push for those who need resubmission.

Good luck in your embarkation into your new phase of life whatever you choose to do! This blog will not vanish, you can still use it for correspondences.

1) ServicePoint prints on drawing film at £12 per double-A0 size sheet in BW,  I will know about colour rates and times tomorrow/today morning;

2) the Polish companies I’ve found only work on a man-and-van basis, a trip to Portland and back would cost about £120-130, with no extra charges for the load +  the driver can help with the upload. A self-drive rental from  http://www.car-rental-hire.co.uk/bookuk1.htm seems to be £70-150 per day (8:00-18:00, from and to nearby Victoria Station),  not sure whether any deposit is required.

12/06 update:

ServicePoint nor Hobs will print large-format on drawing film in colour at all, Azographics would need to order the material especially for us and would charge app £1220 – which I suppose pretty much gets the whole trouble out of the way. Unless anyone knows about a place that could do this cheap, I think we should just decide on the kind of paper, whether we want it mounted etc, so please get back to me on this. cheers

Also, as the time is pressing for show preparation, we should swiftly move and start working tomorrow right away.

1. SPACE MAKING

◆Each project will be hung either from the ceiling or off timber boards fixed on the walls.
◆Presentation sheets will be hung with fishing wire, under which models (if you have) are displayed on building blocks.
◆Pebbles or small stones are placed on the floor, near the walls and display blocks etc to create an outdoor feel.
◆Big B&W images of cliffs/coast lines are covering the windows – images will be printed on drawing films so that they still let some light in.
◆At entry area into our space, projection over the site model will be showing images/films about Isle of Portland as an intro, as well as snapshots and sites of your individual projects.

2. FOR ALL OF YOU to prepare individually : project sheet composed for exhibition.

◆Each of you have 2xA0 worth of space. Depending on your allocated space, it’s either landscape (h:1682 x w:1189) or portrait (h:1189 x h:1682). The whole composition should be printed in one sheet of drawing film, not separate 2 A0s.
◆Recompose your project drawings/text/titles etc into a comprehensive presentation sheet of above size, emphasis on your final design and resolution.
◆This need to be ready by Wed 13th.

◆Also write an one-paragraph synopsis of your project, to be placed next to your presentation sheet. You should also name your project, if you haven’t yet.
◆Choose a key project image to be projected onto the site model.

3. People in charge

Ellen and Miguel : image and sound editing ☞ Please all give them above key project images for projection. ☛ Ellen & Miguel, please make sure that electrical equipment be tested on 13th (morning only) if they are not from the college. such as DVD player, speakers.

Adelia : various material ☞ Please all give some kitty money when she asks you. ☛ Adelia, some white paint and brushes, timber boards for supporting projecer, timber rods for hunging sheets off walls, will be needed as well.

So-Ra and In-Suk : project synopsys boards ☞ Please all give them your synopsys and your project name.

Elain and Han-Dong : landscape images on the windows printed on drawing films.

There will be more work on site, all should participate, it’s your show.
If you are not yet allocated your space, talk to your fellow students a.s.a.p so that you can start working on your final presentation sheet.

After we had a meeting on Saturday, I am in charge of collecting briefs.

Would you guys send a brief of your project and the title to me?

The Brief has to be no more than 125 words, therefore, it will be short introdection of your project.  

 It will be printed nicely and put up next to your exhibition board.

You guys’ idea about projecting the images next to the site model is fine, but

●the projections are not about individual project shemes that will be exhibited in the space else where in our space. Each individual project images shouldn’t be repeated many times.

●Site locations, some key images should be projected onto the model itself (not next to it). With your names/project names and/or panel number. (Good idea to name your project if you haven’t)

●It’s more about conveying the feel and scale of the Isle of Portland to the audience. Photographs of your trips to the site will be fantastic, not only around your sites but of the island as a whole. Or some old images found on the web, history and military heritage, olympic plan and local feel – so that the audience can get a feel of the place, scale of the dynamism, depth of history etc that you have all been dealing with. Coastal routes and cliff images will be fantastic. Basically it’s more or less your backround research bit, I should say. Then the audience will understand the context of your project more.

●for this reason, I would paint the model white to make it a backdrop of the projection, i.e. the images will be projected onto the model directly. Then not only images but maps and routes to your projects could be shown precicely onto the model as well.

☛Re: electric equipment used on the show
will have to be past tested by an engineer, in order to make sure everything is fire safe.
Our Test Engineer, Graham Merridew, will commence PA Testing at our site on Wednesday 13/06/07 at 9.00am for half day. Any computers, projectors, DVD players speakers etc etc should be tested by him on this day. BE SURE TO GET EVERYTHING TESTED!!!

☞ We should meet for discussion before going too further into planning. I also have some ideas that I would like to share. Anyone up for it could meet me on Saturday 5:30 at National Theatre at South Bank. Please let me know.

☞ Printing your business cards is a great idea – hope all of you do this, with common design theme with your individual images on the back.

☞ Also think about how much you can afford to contribute. There will be some more printing cost for your final sheets, business cards – will you have some budget to print something big for the space?
